Since 2021 I’ve managed a YouTube channel<\/a> dedicated to survival, night in the woods and trekking. Meanwhile I’ve published almost 450 videos but in the last three years I’ve seen my channel slide down. Since 2024 each year obtained less subscribers and less watchtime. Only the views are increased due to a major number of short videos, but short videos are pretty useless: in three minuts I can’t explain survival concepts, describe a backpack or a survival kit, and usually people watching shorts don’t move to the connected long video. Shorts are useless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where is sactisfaction for who manage a small YouTube channel, without commercial proposal, only to share knowledge or experience? From where it come? In my case from interections with the audience. If my video receive 400 views and 10 different users post a comment, it means my video has generated a reaction in 2,5% of the audience. 10 users are less than 0,5% of my 2.800 subscrivers, nothing. But it would be a great result for my standard, but I never achived it \ud83d\ude02.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, some expetions a side, in my videos usually I received comments\/interactions from one or two guys, nothing more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People on the Web lurk and nothing more, they watch videos without contribute in any way. The “like \ud83d\udc4d” is so impersonal and cold that I\u2019ve never paid any attention to it. Without comments I, as video creator, couldn’t understand if my videos were interesting, if they generated reactions in the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I don’t like ask to the audience for a “like”, for subscriptions or hype. You can’t beg for interactions. I hate share my videos links in each outdoors Facebook group and page I can reach. It’s annoying and self-congratulatory. If audience never shared my videos may be they are not interesting. clearly, after five years and almost 450 videos I haven’t learn how to produce interesting videos. So I’ve just tought it’s better avoiding waste time and energy producing other booring videos<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m not closing my YouTube channel, the videos will be available. I belive in the goodness of sharing knowledge and experiences, simple I’ve lost the desire to post anything else in Italian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ll keep posting videos on my channel in English<\/a>, but it’s just a way to practice a foreign language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
